That tiny seed we planted long ago is finally breaking through the surface of the Earth towards the light and warmth of the sun. Another new beginning. I adore this feeling.
With the launch of our first Botanical pop-up shop in the recent past and the excitement of more creations in the future it certainly is a great time to celebrate. I can still remember the smell of our first body lotion simmering on the stove at home. I’m not sure if it was the smell of the warm infusion or the smell of a personal fulfilment that captured our attention. Either way, it was magical…
So, I would like to raise my glass (or coffee mug) to everyone who helped us to nurture this Seed. To the House that built me. To the family who rooted me. To the Tree that protected me. And most of all, to the pea that made everything come to be.
THE BULT. POTCHEFSTROOM. BUILDING 82. THREE SHOPS FROM THE CORNER OF STEVE BIKO LN & BORCHERD STR.
We are proud to invite all of you to the launch of SUDBURY HILL’s first Botanical body shop. We will be opening our doors from May 2011 to April 2012 for a limited time only in Potchefstroom, South Africa.
From Autumn to Autumn…The seed germinates…
Autumn. One of my all time favourite seasons of the year. There is something mystifying about the leaves falling one by one. Nature is slowly turning its colours to brown and amber. It’s also that time of the year when I need to care for my skin the most. That’s why we use only the finest herbs to make our special body butters. It’s so good that I actually wonder what it tastes like. At just the right consistency and infused with natural botanical extracts let dry skin travel away with the falling leaves by using SUDBURY HILL BOTANICAL BODY BUTTER this winter…
The greatest thing I love about my job is the fact that after a stressful day I can relax in my own self-made botanical products. I’m madly in love with our Botanical foaming bath oils! Taking a long bubble bath and unwinding doesn’t make me any less of a guy. In fact, soaking for a couple of minutes in our Botanical “stuff” makes me feel like a mighty Oak Tree. Let’s not forget to add a little music to it all (and let the bubble in your tub not be the only bubbly around…if you’ve got something to celebrate, then celebrate it. If not, then find something worth reason to pop the cork). With the fine tunes of my all time favourite country singer, Keith urban, in the background and the sweet smell of Botanical infusions relaxing my muscles…It is time to say…heeee haaa!
If your’e a down to earth girl from the country side, treat your country boy with some SUDBURY HILL: Lemongrass & Thyme botanical bath oil to relieve his stress, not to mention his hayfever. And if you’re a glam city girl, treat your busy man to some nurturing Nature after a traffic jam or a workout at the gym with SUDBURY HILL: Rosemary & White tea botanical bath oil to ease tension and aching muscles.
So ladies, whether your man is a city boy or a country boy, none the less he will adore you for bringing the nurturing essence of SUDBURY HILL BOTANICAL BODY PRODUCTS into your home, your life and his heart.

Taste the wild honey, listen to the sound
Of the wind that’s blowin’ through the trees
Rivers flowin’ to the sea” – Keith Urban
Nothing better than all Natural and organic! Here is a basic recipe for you to try at home. Guys will love it!
MINT & OATMEAL SHAVING CREAM
things you’ll need:
- Mortar and Pestle
- Electric Mixer
- One cup of Plain Rolled Oats
- A handful of dried mint leaves
- Small Container of ORGANIC heavy whipping cream
- 1 ORGANIC egg white
1. Use the mortar and pestle to grind Oats and Mint into a fine powder, or at least as fine as you can get it. This will probably be the longest part of the creation process. Put the ground ingredients to the side.
2. Using the mixer, beat the egg white until stiff peaks form, a little thicker consistency than a meringue. Then, in a separate bowl, beat the whipping cream until it becomes a foamy whipped cream. You may need to add a pinch of oats/mint to help it along.
3. Combine the egg whites with the whipped cream; whip together on a medium speed. As you’re whipping, gradually add the dry ingredients. When completed, the mixture will be thick and creamy, sort of frothy (sort of like dispensed shaving cream). It’s ready for use!
SUDBURY HILL: a Gift from Nature…
Never in my life did I think that Labeling and packaging our products was going to be this challenging…and I love a good challenge. Starting this business wouldn’t be the great adventure it has been if it weren’t for the challenges. I always kept myself busy with the content more than the packaging. What’s on the inside is more important, right? Well, my conclusion is that both are equally important…I can tell a lot about the inner content just by looking at the outer appearance of another product.
It denotes a lifestyle. A way of living. A character of style…The following pics were taken a while ago when we where first experimenting…and we will always be experimenting. That’s the only way we learn.
Packaging is the science, art, and technology of enclosing or protecting products for distribution, storage, sale, and use. Packaging also refers to the process of design, evaluation, and production of packages. Packaging can be described as a coordinated system of preparing goods for transport, warehousing, logistics, sale, and end use. Packaging contains, protects, preserves, transports, informs, and sells.
Our Packaging is environmentally friendly for a more sustainable lifestyle. Caring for you and the Earth…
This was one of the first gift packages we did over Christmas time. They were a hit! This coming christmas we would love to launch a special limited edition of PINE CONE BOTANICAL PRODUCTS. A special range in a beautiful package for that special someone. These gift packages are completely custom-made.
I just love working with glass. There is a sence of stability and quality in glass. We use no plastic when packaging our products. Only the smooth crystal clear feeling of glass will do for our special contents.
With the opening of our first Botanical shop things have been very busy…what an adventure! Whatever obstacles still to come it is our excitements and passion that sparks a vision of the first box opened on that special day before we open to reveal our concoctions and we can then creatively display our products for your enjoyment. What a feeling! We can’t wait!
(SUDBURY HILL IS A PROUDLY SOUTH AFRICAN BASED COMPANY IN THE NORTH- WEST PROVINCE AND WILL BE OPENING THEIR BOX SOON IN A SMALL, YET BIG HEARTED, TOWN CALLED POTCHEFSTROOM.)
Packaging inspired by anything you can find in your garden…
Beyond the cord, beyond the label, beyond the glass lies the plant. The plant itself a powerful package containing healing properties. Slowly infusing and that’s when everything comes together.
Concluding thought:…Of all packaging it is Nature that we should credit the most on her beautiful designs: Plants and Trees. Packed with “the good stuff” for your skin and common ailments.
